Sunnyside's Shanley Shines Kids Fund

The recreation committee at Sunnyside elected to support the "Shanley Shines Foundation" as our charity recipient. The Shanley Family has camped at Sunnyside for almost 40 years. Matthew, their youngest son, spent every summer here while growing into a young man. At age 26, Matt was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and he lost his battle to the disease three years later. Matt loved sports and knew how important they are to every child, whether shooting a puck, swinging a golf club, hitting a baseball or just having fun with your friends and being a kid. 

 

Sunnyside's Shanley Shines Kids Fund is an endowment fund for youth, a registered charity of the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa. Funds are available to children who require financial assistance to play organized sports, summer camps who would otherwise be unable to do so. In addition, it provides financial assistance for eligible students wishing to attend post secondary school institutions. Algonquin College has made available an award in Matt's memory.
